hey guys. so here's my issue. my gf has a 2000 jetta. she stopped at the store and when she got back in the car she stuck her key in the ignition and it turns but it feels EXTREMELY loose when it turns. i checked it out and the give that is usually there when its about to turn on is not there at all. no sound from the car as if i'm not even turning it. just a loose as hell ignition that turns. the radio (http://www.vwforum.com/forums/#) turns on and when i stick the key in the door the windows roll up so that part is good. anyone else have/had this problem? any input would be GREATLY appreciated. i'm being told it's an electrical issue but for some reason i don't want to accept that that easily.:uhoh:

Sound like the ignition switch lost a tab. You will still be able to operate the car with the tab gone but it's loose. Soon the whole switch breaks. Change the switch, it's cheap.
Hope this helps.

thanks a lot. i was thinking it might just be the ignition switch. this guy was telling me it was an electrical issue. is there anyway i can get the car turned on to take it to my mechanic guy? i can get it towed but if i can get it turned on once to drive it straight there i can skip the whole tow hassle.

No other way than to have the ignition switch. If you try to hot wire you can have many more costly issues. If your girl has towing coverage on her car insurance it should cover the tow. May want to check. By the way what school did you go to in Long Beach? I went to LB Jordan and did some time at Poly in the 80's.
