I was wondering if anybody else has a problem with their trunk getting wet and water puddling up in the spare tire well? Both my Intrigues (99&02) had the leak. I figured out its leaking into the trunk through 1 of the bolt holes for the tail lights. Its right in the path of the drainage. The seal around that bolt went bad. I got a few regular garden hose O rings put around mine and the leaking has stopped. If you do and need to drain your seepage issue there are 2 drain plugs at the bottom of the spare wheel well. My leak was a decent size in leak speak. I had about 3-4 inches in my trunk per rain fall which was causing an issue with my fuel guage. I also got some mold too I think ill just wash the liner. There are some electrical components attached to the car in the trunk under the carpet like the fuel pump and some sensor thing. So when those got wet my fuel guage would stop going down. Until enough water evaporated or found a hole to squeeze out of. Which is why when parking on pavement I noticed wet spots under the trunk after a rain fall. If anybody else has this issue it could possibly be your leak too.

Yes, I had a similar experience, but for my car it was the spoiler. Shortly after getting my 2000 (in 2002), I found a lot of water in the trunk, a few days after a 300-mile trip in a heavy rainstorm. Wondered what secret rust hole this car had, after it had seemed in such good shape. Found out it was the gaskets where the spoiler was bolted to the top of the trunk lid. Most leakage was on the left side. Really annoyed me - here it was not even a functional part of the car (at least, I don't think so), and it was causing a problem. Couldn't get any replacement gaskets from the dealer, so ended up hand-cutting my own gaskets out of some thin plastic packaging film and using that, along with silicone. Did the trick (so far), and helped me learn about my car.
Also taught me to keep my hands off the spoiler, and especially not to lift up my trunk lid, or close the lid, using the spoiler. That may have been what caused the problem. I wonder how common that issue was.

Yea I have had problems with spoilers in the past. Just seeing sombody sitting on their spoiler sends goosebumps down my spine. Im pretty sure with most of my cars in the past that had spoilers the gaskets were made out of that double sided foam tape stuff. My trunk lid is newer it was replaced in a accident by prev. owner so I should just check to see if they are there.

The rear windshield had to be reasealed on mine they put it back with the same old weatherstrip, after that the leak stopped. Water was getting into my spare tire area and it was getting very annoying. It formed little surface rust on the paint by the drainplugs and I had to dry it after rainy days.
