I have a 2001 chev silverado with now 2 windows that dont work the passanger side goes down good but going up it sticks and you have to push it up. the driver side just went bad when you push the button it makes a crakling noise and doesnt move. My question is this a hard job for anyone to fix? My freind says it costed him 300 to do one window sounds like alot but is it mostly labor? thats why Im asking if its somthing I should try doing or better off bringing it in and eating the cost.

thanks

I replaced my window regulators a few years ago ..this is a common defect ...I purchased my 2 window regulators from 1A AUTO ,,this was about 140.00 for both sides total...dealership list is about 300.oo..EA..

took me about 45min ....driver door has more electricals ..

As far as window regualtors go, these are cake. They have cables instead of rods or tracks so they go in easy and they are clamped to the window so no worrying about broken tabs or special tools. Not a bad job for somebody not so experienced, Just as long as you know how to take a door panel off. One more thing, the door panels on these have hooks instead of push clips so once you get all of the screws out lift up not pull on it. If you have any more q's lettme know.

thanks for your replys! you were right it was a piece of cake I did both in about an hour. with instruction off google. just another question. when I was all done seemed like everything was going slow. tried starting my truck and all i got was a click. lights were dim. so I jumped it and it started and eveything worked as normal. took it for a ride came home shut it off then turned it back on and it started right away. I didnt remove the neg battery cable while doing this. could I have shorted out the battery doing this? I am going to leave it sit overnight and see if it starts in the morning to see if it drains. How can I check to see if the electrical is alright or if something is still shorting? the battery is over 5 years old so maybe the battery is just weak and when i was testing the windows alot it jsut drained. does this sound right? please let me know what you think. or what i should check.

thanks

with the battery connected and you doing this work with doors open the lighting drained the battery..since its 5yrs old it has lost some capacity...when its fully charged get it load tested...

make sure your battery connections are cleaned [wire brushed ] then secure fasteners..poor connections can cause poor charging....

how much did you pay for the 2 window units total ?

Cat

I bought one from 1a auto and one from another place both off of ebay. one was 68.00 and one was 62.00. $130.00 total. both with freed shipping and lifetime warranty. For how simple the job was I cant believe they charge that much per door. Would doing it for just 1 hour drain the battery that much? If the battery was ok?

thanks again
