The Service 4WD light keeps coming on my 2000 Chevy Silverado 1500 4WD.
Any suggestions on the problem?

I know the local auto parts store can tell when the engine light it, I wonder if they can tell about that lite. Try googleing it. good luck, post the answer here if you figure it out.

On my 2000 Yukon, it was a bad selector switch in the dash. Some have able to re-solder the switch to fix it. For me, I just replaced the switch.

Is it on all the time? If so, you might want to see what codes are set. In my case, it was not on all the time.

to have the drive train code pulled you will need a GM scanner...

It may be possible a local tranny shop has this ability..if not the dealership can extract this code and then with posting it here we can give you specific directions...

if you do not have any 4wd issues ..the service 4wd light comes on shortly after operating the vehicle as mentioned it is very possible it is a bad switch ...,my switch had the bad solder joints so I simply resoldered these pins that are the switch connections to the board [2000 siL ]...

my truck did that the day i brought it home when i bought it lol. I used the snap-on scanner to read it. The code came up with the transfer case control module, but there is a technical service bulletin that says not to replace that module but to replace the selector switch instead. As soon as i did that the light stays out. hope this helps.
