Thought i'd share a few pics from work of one of our locomotives that had a small engine blow-up !!
First pic show's part of the cam-shaft (arrow) sitting on the walk way after it had blown out though the side of the engine block and doors..
The loco also caught fire and dumped its 980 litres of oil all over the place.

This one shows whats left of the Piston Rod after it done a exit job on the engine

May I ask what caused that? And were you repairing or taking pics and drinking coffee (I assume your public service jobs are similar to Australian ones)?

At this stage we think it was caused by the cam shaft coming loose and then simply falling off.
The cam is in 6 sections on each side of the engine and it just looks as though they(The bolts) sheared off.
This then put the whole engine out of timing.
The cam would have smashed into the cylinder and this would have then caused the rod to become bent and finally the poor old girl cryed enough !!:bloated:
It then blew the engine cover off thanks to the shaft and then dumped its oil, shearing a fuel line off which then caught fire
