Hey guys,
This is my first WIP thread, and for several reasons. One: I haven't had a camera that I thought could take good enough pics, now I bought a Nikon D5000 which works. 2nd I haven't been building much since 2006 or 2007 when I completed my Enzo. I'm hoping that having a WIP thread will help me continue to work on models even tho it is hard to find time it seems. I know I post on a lot of peoples threads and have no work to show of mine so here it goes..
On to the model. It is Fujimi's F430 Challenge with some other parts of other detail sorts. I didn't want to convert a challenge into a street but when I ordered it last spring the street version was out of stock and I was impatient:banghead::headshake Now I am wishing I had waited because it wouldn't have made a difference. I am far from making a full conversion and have realized this now that I am farther in the build, I will probable give this to a friend and redo it hoping for better results and use this to get better. Here is the look I am trying to achieve as far as color combo for body and rims:
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/attachment.php?attachmentid=39046&stc=1&d=1272257702
I need 1 more coat of paint before I add details and polish/clear etc.
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/attachment.php?attachmentid=39047&stc=1&d=1272258100
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/attachment.php?attachmentid=39048&stc=1&d=1272258174
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/attachment.php?attachmentid=39049&stc=1&d=1272258174g
you'll notice the vents are cut out in the last pic, I will be putting P/E from CrazyModeler
here is some of the other parts I have made some progress on:
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/attachment.php?attachmentid=39054&stc=1&d=1272258345
Idk if its visible to anyone but I put the PE prancing horse under the primer and paint hoping to have it pop out, it is subtle tho
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/attachment.php?attachmentid=39050&stc=1&d=1272258426
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/attachment.php?attachmentid=39052&stc=1&d=1272258426
I have a lot of work to do on cleaning up the dash, Masking job wasn't perfect
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/attachment.php?attachmentid=39051&stc=1&d=1272258426
Since I dont know how to paint a the lip of the rim properly I think I will just be trying to make lips out of Styrene and maybe add some depth to them and paint seperatly
I have other parts with some progress but I will wait until I am further on them. if anyone has any suggestions or criticisms I would love to hear it. thanks for looking

I love these seats too, may I ask which product you used to paint them?

The bit that you see in the pic is all one , however where my thumb is is done in two seperate small pieces which I will show later. I am not sure why Fujimi did this because there will now be a visible (or hopefully not so visible) line where the 3 pieces meet.
Again thanks for the comments

Your seat looks great, i can see the Horse under the paint, nice touch.
I wish Scalemotorsports were able to ship this overseas, stupid customs service hindering us "foreign" modelers.
Also what CF did you use?
Its good to see your first WIP , cant wait to see more

Nice!
I’m also about to start this same kit.
I also like the finish on the seats, they look great, too bad I can’t get “Faux Fabric” in Mexico.
I will follow this one for sure
Keep it going!

Ash I would double check hiroboys site to see if he carry's this or something similar. I have ordered so many brands of CF that I don't recall what kind it is (Im at work right now) I think it is crazymodeler. I will double check later.

Small update. I wanted to post pics of the body body polished. I have used fine compound from Zero paints as well as micro mesh (3200-12000) from Hiroboy prior. Only thing I haven't done yet is wax it which I think i will wait to I am closer to being finished first. I don't know what the hell i was thinking because I glued the pieces in the openings in the front bumper in and painted them yellow. Just now realizing this I have to see if I can pop them out without ruining anything so I can paint them gunmetal... :banghead:
Also for some reason I dremeled the detail off the intake plenum (don't as why cuz I'm not sure) so I had to use styrene to try to fix this and I think It came out okay. and now the pics....

The intake plenum detail fix isn't perfect. But I think its a lot better than just leaving it off all together.
Thanks for looking and comments and criticisms welcome as usual...

I haven't finished a model in like 3 or 4 years I think (wow its longer than I thought) And I dont quite remember whether I should spray the body with clear or not? And if so at what point should I do that? Any advice anyone?

Just one point of clarification...I feel like the debate of "to clear or not to clear" is an ongoing one, so I wouldn’t want you to think that my suggestion was the definitive answer, just merely what I do with my models. With all that being said, I am thoroughly enjoying your WIP. I have this model in my “to do” pile and I just got the CM PE set for it as well, so it might the next one I start. I just need to decide on a color (I fancy Ferrari’s in colors other than red, is that blasphemous or what?) Good luck,
Stuart

Thanks i am glad your enjoying it. As I said in the first post I was impatient and ordered the Challenge kit instead of the normal F430 coupe. And I have already realized I have missed some things to make it less race and more street so it may be sloppy in the end, I am just hoping to improve many different skills and consider this practice for the next attempt. I cant believe how hard it is to get time to build. between working 60 hours a week and other social activities it is taking foreeeevver. I really want to build more tho so i need to work on that. i love red and yellow Ferrari's, but dont mind seeing other colors at all.

I was just gonna re paint it yellow but after seeing it black and yellow I really like the way it is now...I know the pics are not that good but could you guys give me an opinion on this, like it or not?

Your progress looks great. The lettering on the mirrors works well with the street tuned look of your model. Phone pix work better with lots of light shot from a bit further back. The fixed focus lenses are setup for portrait and group distances not macro distance closeups.

Crap I have basically finished the model with the exception of some small finishing details which as I attempt to attach the body to the chassis my work is getting ruined. for some reason, despite all of the test fitting i did during the progress of the build, the body will not connect correctly. If the front is attached correctly then the rear is too high, and visa versa. Which is incredibly aggrevating to the point that I almost mashed the body against the wall. I cant figure out where the problem is coming from, and therefore how to fix it so I can be done and move on to the next project. These types of problems often times can throw me into a non building slump where I spend no time working on anything. Has anyone built this kit and ran into the same issue? If anyone has any Advise I would love to hear it. If i get a chance I will try to take pictures of the problem I just described

It looks like everything fit fine until you put the windows in, that may be where the hang-up is. If the windshield is a seperate part then it may be mounted too low and it could be running into the dash. That's one of the problems i ran into on my 355.

Okay I finally have an update. Not big to anyone following really but big for me because i will be on the path to finishing to the model shortly. This will be my last post of progress and any later post will be finished pics unless I mess something up worth posting about.
The progress I have made is simply getting the body to attach to the chassis properly which was a major hurtle for me to overcome. I did pop the windows out and it only made a slight difference. But what I did was glue a square 3/4" long piece of styrene to the inside of the front bumper which made it so the front of the chassis couldnt go below the bottom of the bumper...this along with tightening up some of the interior pieces made it work so I am excited to almost be done.
I should be done right now but in fidgeting around with getting the body on a lot of the finishing details were messed up which I know have to correct or replace:banghead: . This will be my first model completed in about 5 years so I am pumped and think it will slingshot me into my next project (Tamiya Porsche 911 GT1).
Anyhow here is where it stands currently:

I will make sure to try to get better pics of it when all the details are finished (as you can see I dont even have the mirrors on) Thanks for looking!

Very nice! The yellow looks amazing! And that seat text looks also very real. Good job.

Quick update:
I was going to put the decal of the red brake light on and couldnt find it and decided it looks crappy anyways so I decided to stretch some clear red sprue to make a more realistic one. I like the way it turned out:
a. The empty indent to put the new light in:

b. The example of the stretched sprue:

c. The result:

I planned to maybe paint the inside of that indent black before gluing it but I liked it without. Thanks for looking.

Definatly dont mind at all. Thanks for the opinion:smokin: and you are right. I didnt even realize that the lights are oposite of each other. Looks okay in person and I already glued it otherwise I probably would darken it.
Thanks!
