crank shaft position sensor???

98 jetta ,auto,2.0,130000 miles question about crank shaft postion sensor.Cars been running great.Then out of the blue went to leave and it would just turn overand over and over....finally cranking.runs smooth no hesitation once fired up good powerevery thing fine when you cut it off though hot or cold its super hard to get going again.Was wondering if the crank position sensor might be bad???????????

It's possible. But before you change it check the connection on it. Also check all your vacuum hoses for cracks and leaks. Could also be a cause of slow starts.

replaced lines to regulator and other vacum lines ........nothing still same kinda leary about changeing the sensor I hate to throw parts at it .tried turning key on and off to listen to see if fuel pump was working cant really hear it hum like some.I.ve got another fuel pump out of another car ws thinking of putting new screen and a fuel filter to try that never changed filter before so might as well now if you or any else can think of something else let me know and thanks Frank for the reply

Franco put other fuel pump in and still same nothing.My question now is when I put atest light on fuel pump fuse will it or should it show a constant power source or a intermidiate one cause mine is hard to get it to show power at all fuse 18 according to black flap its fifth from the end anywho can someone ansew that one.mayby that might be where i need to start looking.Thanks Mitch.........One more thing I disconnected the ignition wire from the distribitor and laid it on top of the intake shouldnt it jump fire?????????

well it seems to be in the switch .while holding a test light on the fuse pump relay noticed that i dint get power to it till i let off the switch while cranking just a hair it fires up every time.would like to say it was relay but i had another one and it did the same time

When you say the switch do you mean the ignition switch? It's good to test before you through parts at what you think might be the problem. Hope you got it solved.

Yes I mean the ignition switch as soon as I back it off just alittle the relay clicks up and she fires every time runs like a kittenI'm just going to live with it for now not really a probelm when you know how to get around it and for some reason my transmission has gone back to shifting smooth like it suppose too instead of whinning out sometimes up to 4k before shifting there another vdub mystery but thanks for keeping in touch Frank
