*misses in gear when stopped
*hesitates really bad on acceleration

You can install a bypass resistor, check my CDomain site page9, link below. Been driving without KS for 7yrs now... still one has to know the issues; 'blondies' can ruin the engine withour KS.
I guess its more likely bad MAF or TPS. MAF is easy swap, find one from JY. Note that such a MAF can also be defective... For TPS there is various ways to verify; check my site page6 how it goes in -93 VGE engine to get the idea for the 96 model.

If I remember right, u need a proper tool to reach it, makes swap 'easy/fast'. Even the factory service manual doesnt know about the tool. Try search maxima.org ...Only done the bypass so what do I know...

If you aren't going to run your knock sensor than you should run premium gas. Higher octane resist detonation, which is what your knock sensor listens for, and when it hears it, it tells the ECU to run safe fuel maps with safe timing advance, which equates to about 20hp loss, and crappy, sluggish performance.
