Ignition switch problem

I can not remove the ignition key from the switch on my 2003 (71k miles) Regal. It stops at the off position and that`s it. I read a post from back in 2006 where someone had the same problem, only theirs was stuck in acc. Will a new tumbler be required to solve this problem? The shifter is going all the way into park and I`m pretty sure the linkage is ok.

Thats a good sign meaning the key release solenoid is getting the 12 volts from the shifter assembly so the key cylinder/tumbler is probably the most likely suspect. That can be replaced without replacing the ignition switch and harness part.

Have you tried spraying silicone lube in the key cylinder? Also, you can run the manual key release procedure to get the key out. There is an access hole under the steering column and you insert an object like a pen.
