1999 Silverado Tire Problem

I just bought new tires. The size is the same. The tires are balanced according to 3 different shops. The problem I have is I still feel a vibration at highway speeds. Not in the steering wheel, not when braking. I replaced u joints 2 months ago. Everything was fine with the old tires. Last tire shop I went to said I should have a 6 ply tire and the new ones are only 2. It is an extended cab 4x4 with offroad package. Where I bought the tires says I'm crazy. But I think this is it. Any Ideas..thanks.

is it aligned maybe your tires are scrubbing

since this occured after the new tires were installed and if this vib is at all speeds with my knowledge it is a bent rim or a defective tire ...


to check this simply remove tire and roll on ground ///it should roll straight ...if it looks like a drunk walking then you know why ...


with tire sizes the 1500 uses LOAD C ...the 2500 LOAD E ....

always use the correct tires with the correct load capacity for your vehicle ...my 1500 has the LT 245 16 R75 load C type ...the reason I use the load C instead of the E is the ride is softer , but it is getting harder to find these C rated tires ....car tires don't last ...I got 90,ooomi on my first set ....

Alignment ok. The vibration can happen at time at 45 all the way up to 70. always there just felt more at times. I dont feel it in the streering wheel but i do in the seats and the body of truck. I know it is a wheel or tire issue. I just think tire is to soft or it dont like 2 ply tires. I put on a friends wheels and tires same wheels different tires and problem is gone. So it looks like I am stuck. Dealer says they cant do anything unless they are defective. I had someone else tell me they had the same problem same truck and solved it by going with a harder tire.

Sounds like what j cat mentioned, a bent rim. Just a slight bend, maybe ran up on a curb or something little, would cause that. Would seem like it would take alot to bend a rim, but it really does not.

what load rating are the tires ,,, are these tires for a honda civic or something ?

also if you put honda civic tires on a truck the tire belts would break giving you your problem ...
