Thanks for the news Phil.

It deserves to be said here that it is a real shame to see that car change hands. :(

I do hope the new owner is a good caretaker of it. Also looking forward to some post-refit photos.

Yes, Franck Selldorff has sold all his three F1s now :(

The car seems identical, I don't see the refit.

The interior should be different. This was the original:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/Peloton25/McLaren%20F1%20B/th_mf1_r_interior_l.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/Peloton25/McLaren%20F1%20B/mf1_r_interior_l.jpg) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/Peloton25/McLaren%20F1%20C/th_2001090843.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/Peloton25/McLaren%20F1%20C/2001090843.jpg)

These were the shots Mr Selldorff shared with us when it was under construction:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/Peloton25/McLaren%20F1%20H/th_Dash.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/Peloton25/McLaren%20F1%20H/Dash.jpg) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/Peloton25/McLaren%20F1%20H/th_Interior20120Lores.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/Peloton25/McLaren%20F1%20H/Interior20120Lores.jpg) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/Peloton25/McLaren%20F1%20H/th_Interior20220Lores.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/Peloton25/McLaren%20F1%20H/Interior20220Lores.jpg)

Brown and Beige to Gray and Creme appears to be the change.

I guess the weather in Lake Como isn't the best today, so she is a little dirty right now. This will be the first of several shots I suspect.

Does anyone know what Mr. Kidston is like with his cars?

Does he drive them a lot or will #007 be a garage queen?

Peloton25
04-25-2010, 08:48 PM
If he showed up with it in the rain at Villa d'Este then I have a pretty good feeling it won't be a garage queen. It's a 4 or 5 hour drive from his office in Geneva.

Also, similar to a comment I made about #046 recently - someone looking for an F1 as a garage queen would not have purchased one that already has so many miles. I suspect he'll see the car as barely broken in and use it as often as he can.

Translating a post from Julien at SCF:

I spoke with Simon K. about the McLaren. It is his. An old dream and "destiny" as he told me because he always wanted a black F1 (like all those other cars) on the one hand and the other chassis 007 fills a fan of James Bond.

He shared its history:

Sold new in the Middle East.
A few hundred kilometers later auctioned by itself through the sale Bonhams in Paris (Champs) in 1998. Party in Switzerland if I remember correctly.
Then in England to a night club owner...
After that it was sold to the USA.

In short he must be 4 or 5 th owner. She has 30,000 Km.

Lengthy negotiations before buying as I understand...

I think Mr Kidston is doing a fine job answering that question you had earlier F1GTRUeno.

In two weeks he's gone from Geneva, Switzerland to Como Lake in Italy and back to Geneva. Then he's travelled from Geneva again to Monte Carlo now. Round trip to Italy was probably around 800kms depending on the route you take. This week's trip is a distance of about 550 kms, again depending on the path you take. That's a total of 1350 kms or over 800 miles and he still has to get home again assuming he hasn't arranged transport. And really, why would anyone with a McLaren F1 do that? ;)

That video of him speeding is so amazing! The sound of the engine when he reaccelerates after braking because of a slow car is wonderful.
In response to someone that said he could not read the speed, you just have to know that 12 o' clock on the McLaren F1 is 200 mph, so he was a little beyond that.

If it's any consolation, by all accounts including my own limited contact with him, Simon is a really great person. He's also worked very hard to become an expert in the field of classic cars with an impeccable reputation across the world. For him the purchase of the F1 was a dream come true as well.

I've got no idea what his wife looks like, but he owns a Lamborghini Miura, 300SL Gullwing and a McLaren F1 - the three of which are some of the sexiest shapes on the road, so he clearly has an eye for the finer things. ;)
