electrical snafu

OK. I'm traveling along in Cruise Control and the intrument cluster goes dead losing power to the CC as well, but the engine stays on and I continue driving (not knowing how fast). I go a few seconds or minutes and the cluster comes back on. sometimes the odometer resets but not always, all start-up lights are on for a couple secs and then all is well for a while (variable time lag) then it happens even if I leave the CC off.
Is there a fuse/switch that controls all this that is perhaps getting old or is it my ecu?:runaround:
