My 01 olds Silhouette at first started having a studder during soft exelaration
when shifting, and when cruise was on on interstate when on level road like it didnt know to press gas or not. Now it will idle perfect but wont rev past 1500/2000 rpm without popping skipping backfireing. No check engine light is on
so I can't even pull a code. Any ideas very helpful. Thanks

Is it popping, skipping and backfiring while you are trying to rev the engine with the transmission in park? If so, there is a rev limiter to keep you from over-reving the engine. If it is doing this in gear at speed, the first thing we need to know is when the fuel filter was last changed?

Van has 128K bought used so not sure on fuel filter. And the skip, pop, bakfire
happens when trying to drive not just rev up, you can't even pull outof the driveway.

Did you check fuel pressure? If not, the first thing I would do is at least look at the fuel filter. If it is a genuine GM filter then it probably is original to the van. I would spend the $10 and change the filter and see what that does. If you don't want to spend any money yet go to Autozone and rent (it's free after you bring it back) their fuel pressure test kit. It hooks up to the schrader valve between the PS pump and the alternator. Let us know what the pressure is with the key on - engine off, does it hold pressure, what the pressure is with the engine running and lastly what the pressure is when you try to take of and it spits and sputters. Also, take a look at the spark plug wires at night with the engine running (has to be real dark). Do you see any cross-firing happening between the plug wires?

Ok ,I disconnected the neg cable while changing fuel filter. Put in a bottle of
Heat, and a can of Seafoam. Van and like a new one for 3 days, then started
missing,poping,and backfiring at intake again.
Fuel in old filter was dark grayish. Guess can try another filter and if it clogs
up n stops up again I will pull the tank and clean it.
Thanks for all the suggestions.

Take that seriously. Spark plug wires DO wear off...I experienced it...but it had a few more years than yours..
