Re-alligning hood

So my hood on my 02 VW GTI is off center slightly

To re allign it all I need to do is take off the hood prop and loosen the bolts and line it up right?

I read that it is a good idea to apply some anti-rust treatment to the bolts (since they are painted over) so what rust treatment would I use?
