Can anyone please provide a video demostration or step by step procedure on how to remove and install the serpentine belt on my GP 00'. Its very urgent the belt starts to show sign of wear.

Your post has been moved to its own thread. We prefer not to mix or convolute threads concerning '04 and up GPs with '97-'03 GPs.

im guessing you have an L36 - should just use a 15mm or 16mm OE wrench - attach this to the center bolt on the tensioner arm pulley. Using the wrench torque to overcome the moment or "clock" spring then slip the belt off any pulley. There should be a label/sticker on the upper radiator support (crossmember) which is a schematic on how to put it back.

The only tip I have are the belt needs to be seated in all the grooves on every pulley. There isn't that much slack available when the tensioner arm is fully stroked out, so be prepared to work hard on the wrench too. It may be advisable to have a helper to hold the wrench if its your first time that way you have both hands free.

It is best to use the right tools for the job. Use at least a 3/8" drive breaker bar tool/handle long enough to overcome the force of the tensioner which makes the job easier.

For belt diagram which engine do you have? The 3.8 N/A, 3.8 supercharged or 3.1? Post to clarify. From your past posts most likely the 3.1 V6 so disregard any replies on the 3.8 a.k.a. L36 or L67 since it is not applicable or irrelevant. The 3.1 uses a different tensioner system and has a different accessory belt routing.

Yes, Its a 3.1L V6. Is there any step by step diagram or illustration for removing and then installing a drive belt. Please help!

See link below posted by Moderator Xeroinfinity (JC) at the Grand Am Tips & Maintenance forum.

Note: Just skip the part with the motor mount in the way and use your belt routing guide.

Thanks Bob! That is a great illustration. I have some question, is there any specifics on torque lbs on tightening the tension bolt? Or do I simply tighten the bolt as hard as I can? What kind of drive belt to buy?

The tensioner is spring loaded, so unless you are replacing the tensioner assembly as well as the belt, there is no torque value. You just release the tensioner once the new belt is routed and it maintains the correct tension. I would suggest a Good-Year gatorback belt as a first choice.
