Transfer case

Have a 99 k 2500 4x4 auto tranny. Has a NP 261 transfer case. Makes a loud gear ratling sound, question is any place on line that shows the guts of this np 261? I think the Dodge also uses this same transfer case in it's heavy duty applications. Dropped the rear drive shaft and pulled the rear of the case out as far as I could, the chain came right out along with what I think is the screen and oil pick up , much metal fragments in bottom of the case. Also can the transfer case be pulled out with out dropping the cross member?:banghead:
