Fantasy Rally - Impreza Sportwagon GpA 1996 Safari Rally

Here is the story...
Many years ago I posted photos of a Hasegawa Impreza Rally GB kit, and someome commented how the rid height looked more like a Safari car. Anyway, I had a few Hasegawa Impreza Sportswagon kits, a few of the Revell re-boxes of the rally kits, some leftover Safari bits from a Tamiya Impreza kit, and I got to thinking...
I am sure I am not the first to do a Sportswagon rally car, so I am not claiming orginality here. This is what I did:
Chassis + wheels - Revell Impreza WRX rally car re-box
Body - Hasegawa Impreza WRC Sportwagon kit
Decals - main sponsor are a combination of kit and Museum Collection for cigarette sponsorship, rally plates are from Racing43
Safari bits - snorkel, bullbar, and rearview mirrors with auxillary lamps are from the Tamiya Impreza WRC Safari kit.
Seatbelts - Crazy Modeller buckles, leftover Hasegawa belts
Paint - an automotive that was close to the GpA impreza colour (I am trying to find a match for future "proper" models).
Cheers,
Grant.

I love phantom racers... or in this case phantom rally cars!
Well thought and executed. Nice build and details, great use of partsbox leftovers. Apart from the color and exhaust that sticks out a bit too much,
it is definitely a great build.
I hope to see more phantoms from you in the future ;)

That's the same thing I INTEND to do. Getting around to it is another thing. My plans for racing wagons were the
Impreza wagon in rally trim,
Accord wagon ........Castrol, PIAA, JACCS
Nissan Cefiro .......Castrol,Calsonic from the primera
Nissan Stagea........any skyline race trim
Mitsubishi Legnum didn't plan on doing anything with that.
Have the wagons and no time to anything. :runaround:I've already scanned the Accord and primera decals so that I can make copies when I'm ready to do them because the decals will probably be very yellow and brittle when I get around to doing this.:crying:

Love it. Reminds me that there was a guy who ran one of these in the Australian Rally Championship a few years ago.
One question for you: I have a set of Michael Guest's decals in the stash but I'm lost as to where to find the correct GrA wing for the boot. Where did you get yours from?

Thanks all for the replies.
jamaicawagon - I have a few ideas for further race oriented wagons and mpv's. Just have to find the time!
Seamus McRae - I did not know there was a Sportswagon run in the ARC. Do you have any details? As for the GrA style rear wing, the one on Winfield car is actually from a Hasegawa EVO III Rally Sweden kit. With a bit of modification it comes up pretty close to the Impreza wing. Also, there are a few Transkits from Racing43 that include a white metal wing. Last I checked MediaMixHobbies had them at a reasonable price.
Cheers,
Grant.

Yeah it was going back a few years now - about the time Possum & Batesy were running WRC's or just after when Possum had switched to the GrN Scoob. I remember watching Ch 10's Sunday coverage of the Tassie round when it was a partial tarmac event & they specifically highlighted this guy. IIRC it was an MY97. It wasn't entered in GrA & GrN (P) hadn't been introduced I don't think, so it would've been included in one of the Clubspec (or something similar) formulae. It was white, had a GrA spec exhaust kit on it with BOV, dropped & the smaller tarmac rims SWRT used on the Impreza 555. When I find my old RallySport News mags, I'll see if there's a pic or article about him in there...

Seamus, if you could find some info that would be great, though no problem if you can't. I have ended up with a few Sportswagon kits lying around (kept seeing them cheap and couldn't stop myself!) so I am thinking of making either a Tarmac-spec rally car or perhaps a fantasy SuperTourer. Any reference material would help!
ddtham - Thanks for the reply. The roof scoop was a leftover Tamiya item that fit precisely.
Cheers,
Grant.
