Has anyone tried replacing the HU without a wireharness? in a 2002 malibu.

I tried putting in a JVC radio by matching up the wires. I used a 9v battery to figure out the speaker wires, and a multimeter to figure out the rest of the wires. However the radio didn't work. Either I need the harness or my radio is broken, any input would be appreciated.

Yes, goto autozone.com and print you out a wiring diagram. WHY IN THE HECK WOULD YOU DO THAT?
The wire adapters are like 9 bucks and you wire the new radio plug to the adapter and plug it in, no modification to anything else. You are wasting 5 times as much time making your harness. I sit in the living room with wire strippers/crimpers and connect the two together then the radio install takes all of ten minutes. I wouldn't even think of doing it the old fashioned way anymore. It can be done, but WHY? Like said, print out a schematic and double check, you hooked something up wrong or made a bad crimp on a power or ground.
