MAF sensor or ported throttle body

I have 99 GTP with 142k miles. It has been reliable and a pleasure to drive, with only occasional attention needed. Today is one of those times that attention is needed.

Leaving for church this morning, the car did not want to go forward - hesitating, surging. But it finally got going but the Check Engine Light (or is it Service Engine Soon?) came on. The car continued to hesitate and surge periodically until we returned home.

The computer reports P0102. Based on information in previous posts, I disconnected the MAF sensor and the car drove better the rest of the day, with only slight sluggishness when accelerating from stopped idle. I've concluded the MAF sensor is bad. It doesn't sound like there has been much luck cleaning or repairing the sensor, so a new one is needed. Anyone disagree?

Again, information in previous posts suggests that I should stick with a GM MAF sensor, and particularly avoid reman sensors. Is this sound advice?

Any recommendations on from where to buy?

ZZ Performance (zzperformance.com) offers a GM MAF sensor for $159.99. But I would be interested in replacing the throttle body with the additional sensors if the price was right. ZZ Performance does offer a "High Velocity Throttle Body for the L67 - $199.99", however the MAF sensor is not provided. And it appears to be a modified (not stock part), so would there be any fit problems installing it?

NAPA new MAF sensors are the GM part with the NAPA logo silk screened over the A/C delco logo. The used to use a sticker that you could pull up and see the O.E. numbers.

NAPA wants $195 for it. Would you rather pay $116 for an A1 Cardone or $160 for a GM MAF sensor?

If the $160 GM/AC-Delco is new (not reman) go with it, as Cardone reman MAF's are JUNK (and AC-Delco's reman units are done by Cardone). The only company that reman's a decent GM MAF sensor is Standard Motor Products, but they are as pricey as a new GM/AC-Delco one.

And if ZZP no longer offers the MAF sensor on the ported throttle body, I don't think you would benefit much from it.

Received the new MAF sensor from ZZP yesterday, then had to run out and buy those darn tamper resistant Torx bits. Are those screw heads used anywhere other than the MAF sensor?

Anyway, car starts and idles fine with new sensor. Cleared the codes. It appears my problem is fixed - my drive in the morning will confirm.
