Hello
Since I have owned my truck the ignition cylinder has had issues. The way to start it was turn the key to the normal run position then turn it more like all the way around then at the end you could feel it grab and you would get your lights radio etc. then at that point (I have a push button for the starter). you hit the button and it would start. Hey it worked (till now)
Today the key turned but no lights no radio so if I hit the button nothing happens cause I got no fire. So I figure time to bite the bullet and change out that cylinder well got a ride spent the whole $10 on the part and came home slid it right in and same thing (ugh) So the problem is in the steering column itself.
I have no money for parts right now. What I want to do is put a toggle switch in for the run position. So the starting process would go flip toggle switch for run position then push button for starter.
My problem is I don't know what wires I need for the run position. :(

So not having the money to fix it right with a new column and not knowing which wires I needed here is what I did. I removed the two piece collar that goes around the column right before the dash. I carefully lifted the bar on the topside of the column that actuates the ignition switch on the lower end of the column with a screw driver and cut all the way throught he bar with a dremel tool. From there I carefully bent the bar so that ran along the bottom side of the column rather than the top and then put another bend in the bar so that it would stick staight down out of the dash. So now the starting procedure goes reach under dash (looks shady when your parked next to a leo) push foward on the newly adapted bar until I get run position then push the button for start, Hey it works.
