Stripping paint

Sadly I ruined my Stormtrooper GTR. So when I tried to strip it usinh ELO, it weakened the plastic and it stared to break and split. Now I have to get a new kit. I have never had this happen before. Has this happened to you? What do you guys use?

ELO can damage some plastics, like acetate promos from the 50's and early 60's, and it can damage some resins, and some plastic bodies if you immerse them rather than wipe on the ELO in a thin layer.

I use nail polish romover for Acryllic paint

Isopropyl Alcohol works for me and no damaged or brittle plastic. Some people use brake fluid, but I never use it because it makes the plastic weak and brittle....

ZoomZoom I did not immerse the kit. There was barely any ELO in the container, maybe 1/8 of an inch :-(

I have had a major problem striping the paint from an old corvette model I painted 7+ years ago and decided to give it the brake fluid bath. When it didn't fully do the trick of removing the paint in a few days soak time, I left it in there and ended up forgetting about it, literally for more than a year!! There is no problem with the integrity of the plastic however the paint is still somehow attached. I had also thrown in a few other smaller mics parts (chassis, engines, interiors) with it and while the glues and paints didn't hold up the plastic has.

I believe Gunze had released a paint remover, but I never try it. Therefore, no idea on the result or how to use it?

You can try Super Clean(the purple stuff once known as Castrol Super Clean) for injection molded models(though this stuff tends to take the oils out of styrene parts).I personally haven't had a lot of luck using 91% alcohol on resin-I was trying to remove Tamiya lacquer and it wasn't budging by hand application.I didn't try immerisng the resin body in the alcohol.

on plastic kit

Easy-off, brake oil, superclean and the one I use every day JAVEL or also call sodium hypochlorite took a container and dip yhe piece as long as you want. I have some piece in my bucket sinece a week now and still alive.

IMPORTANT don't took brake fluide on resin you will destroy it.

Try Scalecoat from LHS. The stuff is fantastic, it strips pretty much anything with ease, reusable tons of times, plastic safe, and it'll do in 5 minutes what takes a day with other stuff. It'll remove lacquer primer too - straight iso-alcohol won't. It's some sort of mix of iso-alcohol and other stuff, highly recommended, it'll save you tons of time and mess.

try using straight simple green and it will not weaken the plastic, emerce it overnite and it works pretty good.
