By the way, Brian and everyone....

What's your opinion(s) of the new redesigned 2010 4Runner?

Hope all's well with everyone!

My opinion is that it has outgrown it's original size to become nearly a Sequoia twin. No longer the simple, slim, creek runner it used to be. I'm sure many like the switch to plush, but to me it's gone upscale the way of the Jeep Cherokee and left the original utilitarian lovers behind. Some improvements are good, but the 4Runner's in a completely new class to appeal to the yuppie crowd while shrinking away from those who bought it before for its usefulness and reliability.

They were good reliable trucks in the past, and I understand the need to "keep up with the Joneses" with the flood of SUVs and crossovers (c'mon, they're really station wagons with big tires). If they had done the improvements without making it sooooo big, I'd like it more.

Thanks for your 2 cents. I wasnt pleased with the redesign, especially the loss of the v8 option. A 4.0 v6 reminds me of my old explorer sport that i babied and i still cracked the head on. Hopefully in the future theyll bring it back.

Did toyota do away with the xreas suspension as well?

Bigger is not better. I like the 1996-2002 years for their reliability. Size was pretty optimum also. Weak points, hard to find a standard transmission and needed locking rear end as an option on all models with 4WD.

I like the engine and transmission in the modern 4-runners, but not the size.
