'01 T/C growling sound

I have a T/C that make a growling sound when in drive or reverse when stopped. It sounds like it's coming from the area of the beltline and alternator. I read here once that the alternator has a clutch in it and they go bad, is this a possibility?
Are the clutch type alternators available in aftermarket?
