Passat Wastegate Error Code

Hello All -

New to the forum here. Our 2005 TDI has had 2 episodes, separated by a year, of lack of power, poor acceleration, etc. First time it resolved spontaneously. Second time we got Check Engine light and Emissions Workshop messages.

Dealer says they are getting an overboost code, indicating a failing wastegate. There are some more diagnostics to do, but they say if the wastegate fails then the whole turbo needs to be replaced for $2000.

Does this sound right to y'all?

You must replace your failing wastegate. And yes if it completely fails so does your turbo.
