2000 GTP rearview mirror replace

Into the auto-dim mirror replacement (it fails to dim)

The factory manuals instruct the use of a small screwdriver...but no indication where...

An older AF post suggested just pull up and release the dovetailed slide w no tools needed.

I just don't want to break the windshield :grinno:

I have tried pulling and gentle taps w a small plastic deadblow hammer in that direction (up) with no luck yet.

Thanks in advance for tips...

The manual-dim mirrors need a little allen or torx to get off, the auto dim ones just push upward firmly at the base of the mirror, it should pop off. Not the best design IMO.

Heres what I did, got a smooth faced framing hammer and wrapped it carefully in a doubled up thin cotton rag. I did this so i could slide the hammer head along the inside glass without scratching. The slightly firmer blow did the trick.

The new Gentex mirror used a T-20 torx button-head screw which was easier.

Thanks for the help!

Details Details! I am dealing with a rear view mirror issue. Mine seems to be delaminating inside or something. It started at the top and it's working its way down. Anyway, how did the installation go? How was the electrical hookup? Does it work right? What part did you get, exactly. Thanks in advance.

Hi there...I bought the Gentex K2 auto dimming mirror from AutoAnything.com. Not sure if that was the best price but good enough for me. There are OEM Donnelly parts on ebay but I found those used and wasn't willing to take the risk.

There are 3 wires coming down from the GTP harness pigtail to the mirror. White Black Green. I metered out the White to be +12vdc switched to ignition and Green to be the ground.

I simply spliced the GTP harness and the Gentex quick connector (only 2 wires needed...trimmed the black wire higher and insulated) with solder, taped and slid back inside the GTP wire organizing clip (plastic part). All of this and added approx 2" to the OEM GTP mirror harness.

I had it out early this morning at 0345 and it appeared to work great - self-test before that by blocking the forward-looking photosensor caused a visible dimming effect.

The longest part of the project was not wanting to destroy the windshield in the process. Wiring etc was approx 1/2 hr. Easy afternoon project.
