basic negotiating advice on a certified pre-owned car?

Hi there,

How are ya. I was wondering if someone could give me some helpful hints with this situation: I am looking to purchase a certified pre-owned 2009 Hyundai Elantra GLS automatic. It is being sold by an authorized Hyundai dealership and has 8,790 miles on it. The Edmonds “True Market Value” of this vehicle is $14,420. The dealership has it advertised for the “special price” of $13,500. The dealership’s website doesn’t show the vehicle’s VIN #, so I can’t run a Carfax check on it, but just for argument’s sake, let’s say that it turns out to be a previously leased or rep vehicle that has been through the 120 point check and has a clean Carfax vehicle history. Do you think that if I negotiate, that I could buy it for a price that is somewhat lower than the “special price” of $13,500? And if so, could someone give me a general idea on what price I should offer first - a fair but firm offer that is below what they are looking for?

Thanks so much,
