Loose steering column at the tilt part

Greeting,

I have a 1989 Buick Lesabre with a loose steering column at the tilt part.(wobbles left to right) I have taken it apart once removed the retention plate and tightened the big bolt but it is still loose at the tilt part. I tried going to the junk yard to get a new one but they all are loose or have been damaged from being torn apart in the process of being stolen. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Thanks a million

If you tear down the column you will find three bolts (usually some sort of torx) that are usually the problem. Your would need to remove everything including the pivot pins for the tilt column. These bolts can then be accessed and/or tightened.

remove the stearing wheel and lock plate unplug the turn signal switch remove that just pull it up and move it out of the way use a 1/4 in dr torq bit and you can tighten the 3 bolt around the center of the colume
