92 Cutlass Supreme only goes in reverse

My 92 Cutlass has an automatic transmission with overdrive. When the car is put into drive, 1st or 2nd, there is nothing, but reverse works fine. I had been driving the car for quite a while with it not running right. Often times when coming to a stop, I could feel that the transmission was fighting the brakes, and I would put the car in neutral to keep it from stalling. I don't know if the transmission needs to be rebuilt/replaced or if there is could be an easier fix. Thanks for any help.

It's kaput,,,,foreward clutch or such is toast,,,,time for a re-build or good {lol} used,,,,,tranny in a can is a waste of money,,,
