'67 Chevy Impala sedan - Supernatural

Hi to all, I'm new out there. I'm from Italy, proud to be a little part of this big community :biggrin:

this is my WIP, the Supernatural '67 Chevy Impala sedan droven by Winchester brothers in the TV series.

As you know, there's no scale model of this car, but only of the coupè. So I bought this kit

It's a modified Impala, that makes things more difficult to me, but it was the only one I could find in Italy, and I was a little in a hurry because this one should be a birthday present

I had to make new door panel lines so I puttied the old. In the picture below the center panel line is wrong, later I did it a little better

the hood was the SS one, I didn't make pictures but it was like this

I had to make it flat and with the nerve (or whatelse it's called :confused:) like this

then I make a dryfit to look out the suspension, and it was a bad surprise, too low on the rear. rims ar obviously not from the kit, this one are from a Suzuki Jimny

later I found better reference from the trunk hood, so I rescribed this panel line too together with door panel line

this is the work as today, I made some mistakes on the engine and I need to touch up a little when It will be in his finally position
I made new springs to rise up the rear, new shock absorbers but not in position yet.
on the engine I made new air filter because the kit one (a modified one) was too high for the hood, I think it was to cut the hood and put on the airscope like the picture on the box

That is looking cool. When you said that you were going to extend the roof, I was wondering how it would look, but you pulled it off very well!!!

I've done some more progress, I scratchbuilted the steering wheel because the one supplied in the kit was a full custom one, and I wanted the original one as the Winchester brother has..

so this is, not so much in focus, I tried to take a better picture once mounted on the dashboard

I tried to make a single bench, instead of the 2 seats configuration of the coupè. I had a rear bench of a Fujimi M3 E30, so I had to use this... some "cut and paste" and this is... not a really clean work but it could be a little worn :biggrin:

Man, awesome work. You make it looks so easy! I've allways wanted to build Dean's Impala, but I find it way too difficult since there is no kit from the 4dr Impala. I've thought about buying two kits this coupe and Buick Skylark (I think the buick has the body more correct, roof, trunk and rear sidepanel shape). Speaking of wich, it seems that the trunk slopes down a tad too much on this coupe version imo. Don't want to spoil Your strive, but I think that the rear boot shape isn't correct. Just my 2c. I hope I'm wrong.

honestly I don't know how %correct the shape of the boot is, but looking at my reference it looks good, and I certainly didn't want to sacrifice another kit to make a roof swap :tongue:

it's been a long time since the last update 'cause I did a mess with the clear coat, so I had to do again the paintjob, also spring has finally come, so the model-time has been reduced a lot :iceslolan

now the update: hull painted, clearcoated, and bare-metal folied. I know the paintjob isn't outstanding, but in picture it came out worse then it is.. :frown:

I too have thought of doing the samething, I love that Impala.

Can I ask, how much did you have to raise the roof to get the correct height?

approximately 0,12 inch :) I still don't know if it's the right shape especially on the boot, but comparing it with the pictures I have it looks good :)

here we are with the 99,9% finished model (only license plate missing)

quite satisfied with the finished model exept with the bad paintjob and with the messed up windows...:rolleyes:

hope to do better with the next one... :p

You did good! Wet sanding could've saved the paint from that orange peel surface, but otherwise it looks really good. Now that I see it finished, I think that the boot shape is correct. Maybe the rear end is a bit too high? But I like it, nice job! Seems like the kit is the best starting point for this project (I'm planning to build one my own). Cheers, keep on modelling!

I just tried wet sanding (and I had only a 1200 sandpaper instead of micromesh) and polishing with compunds but it was my first try.. I still need a lot of practice :icon16:

I'm also triyng to learn more about type of paints and I think that the mess up was caused by an acrylic clear over an enamel paint. I'm thinking about using mostly acrylic paint for the future projects especially for the paint job, in my little experience it seems like I felt better with them :p


I liked this kit a lot, I found it easy to build and with a nice level of detail (compared with his cost). maybe it was better to use the "classic" version instead of this street machine, but I only find this :iceslolan

good job but yes well the trunk lid needs to be flattened on the rear, lower it a bit as it still makes the car look coupe

Doesn't look bad, remember you can always polish the paint job if you have orange peel. The more orange peel the more polishing and always more of a chance of burning through the paint. May i ask what type of paint you used on the seats and interior (yellow)? As maybe it might be the type of paint your using, ive noticed i had bad experience with testors spray paint when i first starting modeling as it comes out thick. Try Tamiya TS spray paint, lays nice and smooth.

As for the model you did a great job detailing it. :thumbsup:

I've used Humbrol enamel thinned with anti-mist nitro thinner.. you're not the only one who said me maybe the bad result is for bad color for doing that kind of job. I'll try for the next models some acrylic paints :smooch:
