Transmission problems after major service

I recently had my Passat in for a major service which included changing the transmission fluid. I'm not sure if he flushed the fluid or just did a drain and fill but now I smell burning transmission fluid and (started the day of the service) and now my transmission rattles and whirs (day after service). I'm not sure if putting the wrong transmission fluid in would cause this but would it help if I drained it and put the right fluid in just to be sure? Would this solve the problem? I'm not having any trouble shifting gears. I really don't want to have to Spring for a transmission, since I just paid for a major service. The guy who did the service isn't cooperating. Any ideas that may help me from buying a new tranny?

If the burning smell has gone away, there was probably just some fluid spilled on the exhaust system... nothing to worry about.

If the smell is still around, you may have a transmission fluid leak on to the exhaust.

The noise may be from a loose part, or something that was disturbed during the service and is rattling or resonating. It may have nothing to do with the transmission. But the shop should definitly look into it for you.
