04 Venture, starter wire burning up

This all started a few months ago, one of the starter wires had been rubbing up against the a/c line and shorted itself out. Replaced the wire with a similar gauge, a few weeks later, the wire just burned itself through where the two were connected. I figured I just didnt do a very good job when splicing the wires together, so I used a little bit bigger wire this time, 12g instead of 14g, used a connecter between the two wires. I thought this would be good, but it burned up again! Now I dont want to do this again for of it catching fire. I'll include some pics, first of the original wire that burned in half, then where the wire comes out of the harness, its the smaller of two red wires, which then turns into a black wire which is labeled, "2.0 sq. mm fusible link". Thanks for any help in advance.

The wire that "burned" in half is supposed to. It's a fusible link wire. If you replaced the fusible link with a standard piece of wire and that is burning out also, you have a dead short somewhere. Best to get a wiring diagram and see what that wire feeds and from where. Possably an internally shorted starter solenoid.
