speedometer reading jumping

My daughter drove our 98 Civic Lx auto late last night and the speedometer reading started to jump up and down causing an engine check signal. The cars lights seemed to flicker and the car shift erratic. Engine started and idles well. Haven't had a chance to do any engine diagnostics on it just yet but I'm looking for a few suggestions as to what may be up.

Your vss or vehicle speed sensor may be bad.. I have had 2 of those go on me in my lifetime and always had the speedo jump and random shifting .. heres a link to give you an idea of location if you arent sure .. http://www.techautorepairs.com/vss0.gif

Just had this vehicle repaired and it appeared it was a grounding wire near the intake manifold causing fuse 15 to blow as per Honda technical bulletin. Wires were repaired, fuse replaced and the care now works great again
