I would suggest getting this:
53467 - TL-01 & FF02 Long suspension arm set
It will make the car more stable and give you some more tuning options.

I am not a big fan of tamiya out of the box rc cars, they tend to be really cheap. Unless is the tb evo series then is a different story, any how I guess is a good car to start off with but when you are sick of the car and master some skill go with nitro. you will not regret it.

Great Choice! :p
I have a TL-01 so when we talk on AIM, I could most likely give you some tips ;)

Jess has the Focus body on the TL-01, they're really fun.
I started with a TL-01 but have done so many mods and upgrades that it is nowhere near the standard one and twice as fast as Jess's car which is stock except for the bearings.
Brian, if you didn't already, get some ball bearing, it will increase your speed and your run-times, and you will want an ESP and maybe a motor upgrade too ;)

I bought the car today. I also checked on the Long Arm Suspention set and the ball bearings. They cant order either so I will have to check w/different shops for those hop ups. I did get an ESP. I will be building this car for the next couple of days. I also had to buy the correct paint for the car. Show you guys when I'm done!!!!

I think you can get the Long Arm kit from Tower Hobbies and possibly the ball bearings there as well. You might want to try eBay for the bearings...I got a set off of there for a decent price. Something else you might want to get...Integy has clip on heat sinks for the motor. I ordered the four fin heat sink. After getting it, I discovered that the six fin should fit as well.

ok here it is.....*drum roll*
The Chassis in its entirety. The Battery was on the charger when I was taking the pics.

As you can see, I already changed the Electronic Speed Control. The one the kit came w/was PURE CRAP. Plus I will be ordering the Sport tuned Motor Upgrade for the chassis so I was going to need a suffecient Speed Control for the Upgrade.

And here is 2 pics of the shell on the chassis. Completed.

Looks good Brian :)
How much of the blue and red on the shell came as decal and how much did you have to paint?

good starter car. I also suggest getting the wider suspension and ball bearings, and when your ready for it a hotter motor. I would suggest an esc before a hottor motor if you do not already have one installed in your vehicles. Also, when you get more skill and you want more speed, I would suggest a pan car over a nitro car. They are faster as a 1/10 and 1/8 scale touering cars nitro car on the track (i know this from expierence).

You can't see the ESC already on the car?

I had to mask and paint the blue on first, then the white came after. The Red was Stickers.

True that 1/8 pan car are faster but you have to understand that if you plan to go racing 1/8 class are harder to find depending on your local track also more expensive. !/10 nitro touring car are more common plus more selection on bodies. also 1/8 pan cars are nitro as well. I have 1/10, 1/8 and 1/5 that's because at my local track they are all popular. 1/5 racing has about 15 - 20 people, same for the 1/8 but 1/10 there are a lot of members. I run electric during the winter time since the track has an indoor track. But like I said for the amount of money he will put into that tamiya he should have gotten a better car where he can tune it more. But if it is just for bashing around that is a great car to have.
Also i just want to mention that is not how much money and goodies you have on the car that makes you win races but your skills. I see way too many newbie comes and buys the best of everything and can't control it and break things here and there that they gave up on the hobby.
From over 15 years of rc experience I will usually tell this to the newbie in a race. Before you try to finsh first in your class try to finish a full race without the car breaking down or hitting the wall etc. This way they will have much more fun. As time goes by aim on your personal best time then after that you can compete with the big boys in the A main.
Once you are there you will no doubt have a lot of fun.
Those that are in Toronto I will be at rc champ on sat and sundays doing the nitro racces they just finished repaving the outdoor track.
Have fun k_dog
