I'm sure it was TS-51 what ever the instructions say inside, Telefonica Blue was the colour.

Wait...I noticed 2 things...

The Door handles should be white and the Names of the driver and Co-Driver arent in the rear winshield....but you said the car was 90% done so I'm sure you havent got to it yet.

The model looks good, totally incorrect car though for the nr 6 :o Also I can't see it in the pics, but the whole of the inside of the car should be white. Just a tip in case you missed that.

Hiro Boy the body you used for that version is totaly incorrect the one you need is the 2002 Version which is the correct one, look at the www.rallylive.com pictures or try thr www.fordrallyesport.com the site of Ford.

Steve,

It's not the wheels so much (although for the tarmac rally of Germany the 5-spoke onese were not used on the nr 6 car), it's the totally different hood, anir scoop on the roof, rollcage and dashboard that are different on the 2001 Focus compared to the 2002 one, and these changes are not reflected in the Tamiya kit. It's correct for the Duval nr 23 car though. But it's all ok as long as you like it.

As for the Tour de Corse Version thay used it for Duval which is correct but they made the change after the tour de corse as for Martin/Sainz/Mcrae the used the 2002 Version since the Montecarlo 2002 to Turkey 2003. In New Zeland they used the 2003 Version for Martin/Duval and 2002 Version For Hirvonen.

It looks good, clean build. Build out of the box right?
Now for the other part. For us rally freaks it's completely wrong :) but I guess you figured that out already (read ales' posts).
It's a shame Tamiya comes up with what is just another 2001 version (how much money did they make with that mould?!), but with other decals.

But, when I take a look at it, just the way it has been build, http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/images/icons/icon14.gif very nice.

Stunning model of a stunning looking machine Hiroboy.

As many have pointed out Tamiya have pulled a swifty with this kit. The model and decals are correct for Duval's Tour de Corse car but not for Markko Martin's Deutschland car. So anybody planning to have a go at this kit in future be careful not to fall into the trap Tamiya have set!

I just ordered the new trans kit from Rennasaince from Media Mix. It has the correct hood, roof GPS box thing, the correct, bigger roof scoop and the 2003 RS decals. I'm glad I spotted and ordered it when I did, because they only had three and were sold out by that night. Combine that with the correct 15 spoke wheels and you can build an accurate car.

Now all I need is another Focus kit to put it on. That and a resin casting kit to copy the roof scoop since Rennasaince doesn't offer it seperately yet like they do with the hood and GPS box thing. Man, I am going to be busy. :D

RallyRaider,

I hate to go OT with this one but is Possum Bourne still alive? I know he was in a coma after his tragic accident in a street car, testing the hillclimb course and colliding with a fellow rally driver. I thought I read the report where they listed him as brain dead and were going to pull him off of life support. A turely tragic accident to a legend in rallying.

I wish it wasn't true James, but Possum has now succumed to his injuries. The reports of Possum's death were cruelly premature but ultimately correct.

As was mentioned, read through the posts in this thread and you'll find the answer. And it's not the painting that is a problem with the Martin version.

Really with a bit of an eye for detail and a quick search for photos on the net you should be able to work it out for yourself zerro!

But since you asked:

In the photos above there is really no differences to be seen. Okay if you wanted to get super picky then perhaps the colour is too dark (probably lighting conditions more than anything else), the ride height is a touch high and some of the decals are a bit off register, particularly the "Telefonica' under the "Martini decal". More telling is the glimpse of the roof scoop, which can just be seen in the action photo.

http://www.spc.org.uk/ford/i/rs-focus-02.jpg

http://a324.g.akamai.net/f/324/3595/1d/www.rally-live.com/photos/2002/deutschland/diapo_018.jpg

Take a look form this angle and all is not so groovy. The difference in 2002 spec is clear to see. The roof scoop can be seen along with the silver GPS/camera box, different antena arrangement, very different vents in the bonnet/hood and slightly altered headlights, finally the front grill should have a RS logo on it not Ford. That is most of it but there are also some other things like the detail behind the grill, as well as some internal changes, mainly dash, seating positions and (I think) the roll cage.

There you go. Doesn't change the fact that is a very well constructed model by Hiro, we're just a bunch of rivet counters here. I'd advise most people having a go at this kit to build the Duval tour de Corse version if they want to be accurate out of the box. Alternatively most of the more obvious mods aren't too hard to do.

P.S. To do a photo comparision like this between a model and the real car is a very mean thing to do. I don't think many models would stand up to such close scruitiny!
