Clutch Wear?

Hi,

I have the 1990 Hodna Civic LX sedan with a 5 speed tranny.
It has the stock 1.5 liter 92hp engine.
Today me and a friend were just messing around with the car and flooring it.
I keep my foot all the way on the clutch then rev it up to about 5-6k RPM then let go of the clutch and peel out. The car takes off real fast for the 1.5 liter.
Is this bad for the engine or clutch?
Is it ok to take off at such a high RPM or should I stick to 2-3k RPM?
Is it ok to do just for racing once in a while?

Also, how do you guys deal with steep hills with stopped at a light?
I keep my left foot on the clutch in 1st gear and right foot on brake.
When the light turns green i quickly take my foot off the brake then lightly hit the gas and release the clutch it seems to work good but I still kinda over rev it and its kinda embarassing. Do you think it will just take time or should I try another method?

time my friend, thats all you need. And i wouldnt be dumping the clutch at 5-6k too often. It doesnt kill it to just screw around once in a while but im sure you have the brains not to do that very often. When racing though its normal to dump the clutch at about 4-4.5k rpm.

Also, it seems that you may be new to manual shifting. When on a hill, if you feel uncomfortable about releasing the brake and rolling back, just pull up your emergency brake and once you start moving (just a little, dont floor it) put the brake back down. Dont stick to this method though. It is how I was taught to conquer hills and now I'm a pro. Hope this helps.
