intake opinions

Hey,
I went to my local shop and asked them for an intake. They said they didn't carry one, but they did have an adapter plate that deletes the factory airbox and replaces it with a cone filter. This keeps the factory tube from the intake to the throttle body. Does anyone have this setup, and is it helpful? The adapter is 20 bucks, and then 25 for the k&n. Sounds like a good deal, but I'd rather have a metal pipe that bypasses the secondary airbox and all that... Opinions, please...???????
The type they offered seemed to be the same as the JWT Pop charger. Is this correct? Just a metal piece that goes between the intake tube and the cone filter?
Am I confused?

from what I know is that that metal plate is all you need. Which seems to be the same as teh 25 dollar one that they were offering you with the k & n. I was looking for the same thing. JWT is just the same adapter from my understanding. It does not replace the piping. The only way you can do that is getting a CAI. Please correct me if I am wrong, this is just what I gathered from research...I'm in the same market...

Nope you're wrong. The JWT is not 'just a plate'. It's a CNC machined venturi horn that smooths out the air flow before it enter the Air Flow sensor. The $25 plate you get from a local shop could end up giving you drivability problems.

So... My next question is how much is the intake from JWT? And, does anyone actually have the plate adapter type? Are you happy with it, does it make your car run poor day to day? Everyone seems to like the pop charger, but I'm trying to comparison shop to make a decision. If everyone has one, it can't be bad..., Right?????

I'm with G-Forces as i've tried a couple of pod filters and different plates as well and the bell mouth item i have from stillen was the better.
Also i read some where that removing the secondary air box or as i know it as a resonator box can affect power for the worst. The theory (so i read) was that this resonator box helps staighten out the air waves as they enter the intake and therefore can alter the power curve of the vehicle. They suggested that the manufactorer would have researched this extensively and therefore was not recomende to remove it.
I actually blocked mine for a while to see what difference it would make and it didn't go as well/smooth as it does with it all connected.
Hope this helps.

Yeah, the secondary airbox thing does make sense. It helped to remove it in my other car, but it's a VERY different setup.
Thanks for the info.

The secondary air box, this is the one after the air filter?

Thats the one i'm talking about, on the p11 its underneath the inlet pipe and half way between the throtle body and filter.

i had the jwt but switched to the weapon r cause the jwt cone is sealed at the end with a metal cap. this is where the air lead was blowing air to. In the summer my car felt slower with the jwt, in the winter i'll go back to the jwt,,it sounds better and is of higher quality
