Ok... I was at my friends house over the weekend in St. Pete, and him and I took my car to go to the local Saturday night "races". On our way out, I noticed that everytime I take off from a dead stop, there is a clang noise comming from my drivers side wheel. The harder I take off, the louder it is. I told him I was going to check it out when I get to my house. So today, when I got home, I jacked up the front of my car and looked under the drivers side wheel. Sure enough it was my axel. The boot was totally slit open (I knew this for a while... I really dont mind the clicking when I make a turn under power...). But when I grab the axel with my hand, it kinda has some play in it when I move it side to side. My dad says that the axel will not last long, and I need to replace it asap. Ok, this is where it gets weird... The guy I bought the car from said that axels had to be custom made for that motor. He said that a new axel would have to be cut in half, then re-welded. I asked a local import performance shop if that was true about B16 axels... the guy I talked to said he has never heard of that before, and the guy that told me they need to be cut and re-welded, was full of shit. Now while I was up under the car, my dad pointed out that it looked like my drivers side axel had been cut and re-welded back together.

I was told that axels from a 90-93 Integra LS will fit. My question... do they really have to be cut and re-welded, or do the 90-93 Integra LS axels fit with no problem??? My dad recomended me to go to this shop in town called Driveshaft Specalists. Shound I go to them or what???

Has anyone ever changed their axels on there B16a1? What did YOU have to do? Any help is greatly appericeated! :flash:

Here is a pic I took to prove that my drivers side axel has been modifyed... sorry its kinda dark, but you can make out the weld.

www.hasport.com go there they have a whole article on what axles to use in what combo with intermediate shaft. if u understand that article and can do u yourself, then no need to go to the driveshaft shop

That axel looks terrible. The Teg axel is what should have been used when the swap was performed. If you have a SiRI B16 the 90-93 axel is used. If you have an SiRII B16 use the 94 up Teg axels.

OK, so NO modifying is involved, correct?

Nope. Get one from your local auto parts store for about 70 bucks and pop that shit in. No ghetto welding required. Also not sure if it makes a difference but I know I had to use the LS axels and also a friend I have used the same.

Thank you very much B16EJ1... I will get the drivers side LS axel tomarrow.

Why do you think that the axel I got in my car now was welded? Is it because it was the wrong size, and the dude was to lazy to just go out and get a 90-93 Ls axel?

The axle in your car now is probably the one it came with when it was shipped. I guess real Si-R axles don't fit US cars or something.

I've also been told by many 86-89 integra axles work alot better depending how the engine falls in, meaning if its off by cm's or mm's it'll sit more flush, will let you know cause im installing my b16a this week on my 88 dx hatch.

I've heard 88-93 Integra axles were all the same, maybe it was 86-93. But anyhow they are supposedly the same thing. I don't doubt it because I have 90-93 on my ZC which is like the 88-89 Integra engine, so I bet they are all the same.

when using 90-93 teg axels you need to remove a spacer on the outer join... simple screwdriver... and if it's not done already remove the dust seal from the hub.

SiR Axels fit No problem... No modifications needed AT ALL.

86-89 axels are different.

In a perfect world you would want a axels with a 90-93 inner joint, 86-89 shaft, and Civic Si outer joint.

but in a pinch a teg one will work

Ok - If you have the YS1,J1, or S1 intermediate shaft - then you can use the 90-93 teg axles.
If you have the Y1 SiR intermediate shaft (like me), then you can use modified 86-89 integra axles (we used some SiR axle parts).

You're gonna confuse the guy but you are right. My friend has the YS1 tranny and I have an S80 tranny and the Teg axels work on both.
