stage2 cams

im debating whether to get stage1 or 2 cams. if i do get stage2, ill have to replace the stock internals. would replacing the springs be enough? or do i have to get new valves and retainers as well?

also, since the cams are basically the same price no matter what stage i get, is it worth getting stage2 and paying extra to upgrade the valvetrain? how much gain would i see over stage1's? btw, i was planning on getting skunk2's.

they recommend you get dual valve springs and titanium retainers. at the most probably 10 more hp but it would effect your daily driveability a bit.

a friend of mine has skunk stage2's in his itr and he said it still drives normally. i was looking at crower and they have a version of their stage2 cams with a stock idle lobe, maybe ill get those instead. btw, would getting a spring/retainer kit raise the rpm limit?

not by itself. you would have to get an ecu or find some way to raise it. and they also suggest getting a fuel pressure regulator and a vtec controller (if you have vtec) and if not then an safc. because you have to tune it to get the most gains.

i know replacing those parts wont change the ecu's rev limit, but i plan on chipping it. what i meant was, will the valve kit raise the power curve/rpm range in which the motor can safely run. like right now, i could rev to 8k if i wanted, but i would just blow the motor. btw, i will be getting the apexi v-afc

it would eliminate the chance of valve float. so it would let you rev higher but i don't know how bad your r/s ratio is and that plays a factor also if you want to be able to rev high and still be reliable. but like a on a motor that had a good r/s ratio and the springs retainers and cams you would be able to rev really high. what motor do you have???

well i still have the f22, but ill be getting a h22 within a couple months. im just deciding on what to get, so i can have it installed with the motor.

Skunk2 stage 2 cams will be just fine for daily driving but yeh i would upgrade the valves, valve springs and retainers. About higher rev it would require more work then just a chip ecu , upgraded fuel. U need to mess around with the bottom end and the crank.
