hey... i*m new to this forum.. uh... yeah.

brief reason as to why i*m writing this... about two years ago i absolutely fell in love with my friend*s '91 G20. the kid put about 10grand into fixing up that car, and ever since then i*ve wanted to get my own... this past june i took my roadtest (i*m 17) and passed, and immediatly took out a loan and bought my own g20. i have a '93 in perfect condition with about 80k miles on it...

now here*s what i need help with--
i*m not totally ignorant when it comes to cars, but i don*t know nearly as much as i should, nor as much as i would like to. but i do know what i want.
i want more horsepower and better performance with a really rad look to the car...

the problem is, i don*t have much money (still paying off the loan...)
so, if anyone can help me, what*s the cheatest, most effective way to improve perfomance/horsepower on my car?

any advice, suggestions, whatever is more than welcome...
thanks!!

To be honest, there are subtle things that you can do like exhaust, intake and what not. But the stuff to make a difference will cost you. Of course some of the peeps here will tell you to go to ebay and find what you want, that is up to you. Start with what I suggested and as you progress, you will know what to do next.

Oh and Welcome to AF!! If you need help, our Mods are ready to assist you.

Hi and welcome

The first "mode" you can do is advance your timing at 17* this is free hp then you can add a CAI for 200 dollars +HS PR or AEM,

tighten the throttle cable. once you start getting money, intake headers exhaust, or just save up for a SR20DET! :D

Hi disconect the TPS sensor start your enginne try to keep the idle at 750+- then use a tinimg light and advance your tinimg to 17*+ no more than 20 (you are car have to be warm)
go to se-r.net they have a lot of info about owrs cars , and the right info about to advance the timing.

If you're on a budget just keep checking the Classifides at se-r.net for used parts. Sometimes you can get a great deal on a good second hand part. Usually if someone upgrades like from a POP to a CAI they'll sell off the POP for pretty cheap.

thanks to everyone who replied to my desperate feeble scream for help... but, can you tell me in like, english for retarded people what i tell my mechanic? cause all these big fancy words and names and phrases are confusing me. i gotta learn. i know this. but i don*t even know where to begin. so basically here*s a scenario...

i walk into my mechanics..
"hey abe... i was wondering if you could help me out by putting a <<insert whatever it is i asked for in my first post here>> on my car? preferably a <<insert make//model here>>"

haha. i*m such a moron when it comes to this stuff... i guess i*ll figure it out in time...
thanks again.

Tell him you want your timing advanced to 17 degrees and he should be able to tell you what it means.

Tightening the throttle cable - this is because often the throttle cable or accelerator cable has some slight slack in it and tightening it means that when you have your foot flat it will be hopefully going faster!!:flash:

I would suggest spending a lot of time curled up with SE-R.net. There is considerable information there that addesses many of your questions.

You might want to check out the SE-R Mailing List archives as well and even joining it.

Sears,
Advance Auto,
Pep Boys,
CarQuest,
etc.
Hell, I think even K-mart sells them

They are readily available at many locations that carry auto parts and tools.
