removing stock turbos

hey im 17 and been saving up for a supra since i was 14. I have enough to buy a TT from a friend of mine but my parents believe that is "to much power" for someone my age. I agree to an extent, so I came up with a compromise, however im not sure if it's possible. If i don't get this supra, im sure i wont be able to find another at a decent price.

Would it be possible to take out the stock turbos on the supra TT and then still drive around without mechanical problems?

If i were to do this, my parents would allow me to purchase the car and when i turned 18 i could either replace those or put a new turbo altogether.

Does anyone know of any1 who has done this for any reason, what kind of modifications would have to be made, and about how much it would cost. All comments would be greatly appreciated.

Just take them both off for about a month and say that you think your ready for one Turbo then single it with a T-78 or T-66 something with a lotta power

Removing the stock turbos is not as simple as it sounds. First, I know of nobody that has done it so I'm not sure the car would even run. Secondly, if it did run it would run poorly. The fuel maps for the TT Supra are set up to disperse fuel at certain boost levels and RPM's. It would run very rich and as a result you would go through plugs like crazy. If you can convince your parents to put a single in it it will be expensive in which case it'll be out of your price range. The prospect your looking at is not very reasonable, although logical. As a result, I would reccommend looking at another car or convincing your parents that 320 hp is not that much. Remember also, you can always do a 2JZ-Swap to an NA Supra

well of course you could always put a big single turbo and i kno a few guys running on a single stock turbo. (for reasons I'm not currently sure of, but involves lack of funds)What kind of hp would be produced if i were to take this option instead of taking them both out altogether.

Single Turbo stock size?? It really depends on what else you do to the car.

There are so many factors here it is impossible to guess numbers. Now if you are talking about Single Turbo Kits name the Single Turbo you want to get. Then it is easier to give you a very rough guestimate.

The short answer is no. I've pulled stock turbos before and it is no fun. You would have coolant lines, oil lines, vacuum hoses and much more to deal with. Also the ECU would think you are crazy. If you want a Supra but parents won't let you have a turbo supra get a NA. When you are old enough to get a turbo supra without them throwing a fit sell the NA and get one.

i know this is an old thread...but this needs to be said

SUPRA650RSP: your post makes me doubt you own a supra, skyline, or any car for that matter beyond the class of a 1989 civic hatchback.
you say you went single but your post makes no sense at all.

please read about the workings of a turbo, engine, car and physics before you make comments to another individual that would ruin the car of another individual. Obviously, you have no knowledge of anything related to turbos or cars which leads me to the afore mentioned conclusion that you do not own any real cars...but are probably some 14 year old poser who likes to surf around the internet posting things that would make him look "cool". please stop regurgitating what other people say and making things up to make yourself sound knowledgeable while infact reducing the knowledge of others to the same worthless crap that you think you know. You have to be one of the stupidest, dumbfuck posers around.
if you really do own the cars you say you do, please sell them immediately to someone who knows what they are doing.

Do not buy the car. the supra TT is obviously much more than you can handle. Please buy a car along the lines of a corolla until you learn how to drive and something about how cars work. You cannot remove the stock turbos simply because you will leave the TURBO EXHAUST MANIFOLD open where the TURBOS are supposed to bolt on to. there is absolutely no header that will bolt onto the TT head to eliminate the turbos. you can have one custom made, but will cost you an arm and a leg, and your car will be virtually undriveable. the compression on the motor is 8.5:1, not that that means anything to you, but with no compressed charge going into the cylinder...you will see virtually no horsepower. please be smart and get a car that will better suit your situation and frankly not put another one of these rare, beautiful cars at risk when the numbers are dwindling more everyday.
please give me the name and number of the person selling this car and i will assist them in finding a buyer for a fair price for someone that can handle the car. Whoever said that much power for someone your age is right. You have no knowledge of cars or what to do with that power. You probably have never driven a RWD car. There is no way you have any knowledge of any high power cars or any experience driving them. There is a great possibility that you may even get killed. Please dont live your life from what you see in movies.

On a lighter note, if you are set on buying a supra, i have an NA for sale right now. It makes a much better starter car than the TT although it still is a stretch. Email me at rscott76@ucla.edu if at all interested
If you do purchase the car from me...i will make sure that you do have at least common knowledge of supras, turbos, and how cars in general work. Also, i will connect you to my connections so that you can get whatever parts you need cheaper than you will find anywhere else.

Hmm.. that seemed extremely unnecessary. Since that post, this has been resolved (purchased the car and kept stock turbos)and this forum shouldnt be used for lenghty showings of one's knowledge when the intent is not to be helpful.

but when anothers "knowledge" is false...it can lead to the destruction of others property
his intent as well as everyone elses in this post give you the impression that they think they know what they are talking about, but what they have to say is bullshit and if you take advice from anyone on this forum aside from a few reputable people then you deserve to have your turbos removed as well as your whole car. im sure you know absolutely nothing about the car you just bought and i can only hope you dont add it to the already large number of wrecked supras

if you removed your turbos like you were saying, do you have any idea what would happen to your car?

you cant just remove a turbo

like i said, please learn what youre doing before you start driving a car with over 300 hp

i only said what i did because im tired of people buying cars they have no knowledge or experience driving and then end up crashing them. Supras arent as dispensible as a civic. the car you have is a very rare find. if you got it for a good price then more power to you...but if you sell it, you can probably make a little money off it. how much did you buy it for?

I bought it for 16k, sold it for 23k, bought another supra (non turbo) for 12k, added afew mods, and now im sellin it on ebay for around 15-16k

Hey RScott, i was just browsing the article that was broguht to my attention but a good friend of mine who happenes to own a supra (this explains what im doing in this part of the forum). Now uppon reading your reply, you you talked about teh ratio of 8:1. Now i dont pretend to know everything about cars (although i happen to think im well on my way), but i do hope to someday learn enough to be able to engage in a intelligent conversation with someone with infinite knowledge like u.

Now down to business..

Would u mind dropping some knowledge on a guy about what those ratios mean, or if its to lengthy, could u give me a site (and not howstuffworks.com either, ive been there) that explains it? It would be greatly appreciated.

And one more thing, if u do decide to honor us with your technical mumbojumbo, could u keep the smartass comments to a minimum?

Appreciate it - and for the record, bullshit that guy owns a Skyline

essentially...the higher the compression ratio goes...the more the air in the cylinder is compressed...
take a volume of air...compress it so that the same amount of air fits into a space 1/8th the size and you have your 8:1 ratio...same with a 10:1 ratio and such...
this more its compressed...the more powerful your explosion will be...BUT...it will also be hotter
turbo motors prefer a lower ratio to avoid detonation...explosion before the spark because you can only compress a gas so far before it gets so hot that it ignites the fuel

compressed air from turbo already hot + higher compression = boom

I think your ECU won't allow the car to work properly.
