"oilservice" light on '88 M3

The "oilservice" light just went on in my '88 M3. Anyone know if this is simply a warning that the oil needs to be changed, similar to a mileage counter on a newer BMW? If so, can I reset it? Or, if it's a problem that I need to look into have you any idea what may be the problem? The oil level is good, at the high level mark on the dipstick.

Thanks for any input!

That oil service light is accompanied by the the lights on the status bar changing from green to yellow and now to red and yellow poissibly. this is to tell you that its time for an oil change and i'm not sure in the case of the m3 but on most other bmws of that era any way it usually comes on after about 6,000 miles although this can vary if the car is left sitting idle too. once the oil is changed you need a special tool to reset the light (can be done by dealer) or can even be done with a paper clip but involes disconnecting the ECU and is far to risky as it could damage the Ecu if you dont know what your doing.:sun:

I ahve a light marked EML that popped up.... and wondered if this reset might cure that too....??

Thanks again,

Tim.
