will installing a universal muffler (muffler only, no exhaust) will result in decreased horsepower?

nope...jus won't add anything (cept a lil looks if it looks nice). j/w, how come ur not goin for full system? u get some 2 1/4 in piping welded on for only bout 100-150, an then u'd have a lil gain atleast.

well i dunt reallly know alot about cars but all i want is that deep sound that those big - tip mufflers provide...i dunt see a reason why to spend 600 bucks on a exhuast kit when i can get a muffler...i m not really in for speed and hp gain...just looks and sound :)

the only problem you might run into is the sound. You don't want a fart can. That's the problem with most universal mufflers or even super cheap ass exhaust systems. If you do want to spend the money for a good sounding exhaust. I would go with a cat-back. The larger mid-pipe allows more flow which enables the muffler to create a wonderful deep sound. (Yes I know that the design of the canister and pipe make the noise too....)

But hey, what do I know... I'm a girl. ;)
