Revell 1969 ZL1 Chevrolet Corvette

1/25 Revell 1969 ZL1 Chevrolet Corvette
This is a replica of one of two 1969 ZL1 Corvettes ever sold to the public. This particular car was sold new in my hometown of Richmond, Virginia by Hechler Chevrolet to a John Zagos. After many years of racing, then neglect, it was purchased by a family friend named Wayne Walker in 1980 and he spent almost $150,000.00 restoring it to concours condition. It won the Bloomington Gold certification in 1982 and was sold in 1983 to help finance Wayne's growing Corvette restoration parts business, Zip Corvette Products. Wayne invited me over a few times during the restoration and as a 15 year old Corvette geek, I was completely taken in by this car. The engine sounded incredible through the sidepipes and I remember that sound to this day! At a model show in 1999 I was told of the car's current location by a spectator looking at my model, it was within 100 miles of my current Florida home!! Roger Judski is the ZL1's current owner as well as the owner of Roger's Corvettes in Orlando, Florida were the car is on display in the showroom. After contacting Roger I was invited to come see the car and step beyond the rope that separates it from the fingerprints of children (and adults!) It was quite a treat and I thank Roger for his generous hospitality.
The model was built in 1998 and is based on the Revell 427 Corvette coupe along with parts from the Baldwin Motion Corvette (sidepipes), L-88 Roadster (hood and air cleaner). The correct Daytona Yellow lacquer is from Model Car World and it also features a detail kit from Model Car Garage. Other extras include Photo-reduced license plates, MV products back-up lights, Chrome by Chrome Tech USA, and Bare-Metal foil for the trim. Scratchbuilt items include my first attempt at a smog-pump system, flame arrestor made from 240 lpi screen, and full emergency brake detail. This model was a huge hit in local competition finishing first or second in every outing, plus winning "Best Engine" at the 1999 NSRA show
