Tamiya CLK DTM Original Teile

1/24 Tamiya CLK DTM Original Teile
My Tamiya Original Teile Mercedes CLK represents the one driven by
Peter Dumbreck in the 2000 season of the German DTM (touring cars).
The body was painted with Tamiya AS-20 from the can and the blue was
painted with TS-54 also from the can.
The decals cover the whole body and there was no problem. Though for
people about to attempt this, when you get to the rear with numbers 9
& 10, apply 10 first. Trust me! Also just make sure you line the hood
and side decals and cut the flute decals with a sharp knife so they
cover correctly. Also using a bit of microsol doesn't hurt to get them
over the lower part of the doors. From memory I think Tamiya neglect
to tell you where one of the decals go, this is for the opening behind
the rear of the front wheels. Forget what side.
I used Scale Motorsports carbon fibre decal sheet to cover the front
spoiler, rear diffuser and the wing mainplane. I also used it for the
interior and for the engine air covers etc. Took some time but it
looks nice.
I also used Studio 27's PE set for this kit. It came with things like
brake discs, radiator covers, badges (heaps better than the kits
decals and metal transfer, seatbelts, wing endplates (much better
scale), front and rear grills. Grills also for the front intakes of
the rear wheels. Exhaust covers, windscreen wiper and many latches and
screw heads. Only problem was with some of the seatbelt parts; had no
idea where some went! Lucky as the interior is so dark and the
seatbelts are dark (except the leg strap which is yellow) it is hard
to see them.
The wheels were painted with alclad 2 gloss aluminium. First time I
used this product and I was impressed! I painted the Astra, F1-2001
and various other model wheels requiring this colour!
The build was easy, no major dramas except for some paint creeping
under the full body decals making it hard to remove from some places.
(I can see them staring at me in my pictures!)
