What happened is he bent valves when the timing belt broke. If you're lucky, all you should need is new valves & a decent timing belt assembled. That includes all new tensioners/water pump/pulleys & labor. It depends on how bad of shape the piston is in as well. I would keep the block in the car, get a rebuild to fix the broken parts & a used 14b turbo off of dsmtrader.com. I think with labor(assuming you let a shop do it) & parts should come to about 1250$-1750$. If you buy a used engine, it could have any problems that you don't know about. With your rebuild, your mechanic can pinpoint, or show you any troubled areas to look for. I would definitely pick it up. These cars scream!!! Check out dsm.org dsmtalk.com & dsmtrader.com.
