Alright guys, I've been think'n bout getting a GSX for a while now, and I've done some research. Let me see if I have the possible problems covered: :(

transfer case problems?

Engine "ticking," caused by lifters, goes away when engine is warmed up.

Vacuum hose and A/C hose leaks,

Lower Ball Joints

(also can you get these problems fixed outside of warrenty, assuming they havn't been done yet?)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Those are the problems that I have found so far, i was just wondering what else if anything i should expect.
On another note, what is the deal with a "turbo timer" and how does it help to cool the engine down, i thought that they were to set, when and how your turbo spools, and boosts?
And what are some main/key plus's to this car, seeing as i need to sell my dad on.
thanks,
Bill
The T case problem was just a leaky plug, most are fixed.
Lifter Tick was fixed in 98+.
Hose and AC Leaks? Not a problem just leak test.
Lower Balls joints I Believe were fixed 98+ and most dealers will replace them free of charge if they have problems.
A boost controller does what you are thinking of. Turbo Timer runs the engine at idle for a certain amount of time after the car is shut off. It allows the turbo to cool down so oil doesn't burn inside them. Don't really need one, just let your car cool down a minute or two after hard use.
Thank's, I havn't had much luck on finding a decent one in my area to look at; but is there anything else off hand that I should check out? I'm planning on going with a 5-speed, 97-99 (hopefully w/ some minor mods). so anything good/bad/whatever?
Thanks,
Bill
I heard of a thing called crank walk that causes your engine to ultimately run so out of time that your crank bearings will sieze for some reaosn or another... but i dont know anything about the topic really i just read about it in sport compact
Yes crankwalk is a problem, in 98+ they switched to a 3 peice main thrust bearing, whichs cuts down on the cases of crankwalk greatly. Just stay of the clutch and keep the oil clean you hope you don't get it. Its not so common every car gets it. I about 20% are effected, its really depends on driving habbits and shape of the engine.
