fuel injection failed 88 vw fox, help!!!

I have an 88 VW FOX. Not getting fuel past the fuel distributor. Plenty of fuel pressure at the inlet of the fuel distributor but nothing from the distributor through the fuel injector lines even when injectors are pulled off of the lines except for the cold start injector which sprays well during cranking. Fuel pump runs while cranking and a half second after then stops. ( Isn't the fuel pump supposed to run if you manual lift the air flow plate inside the fuel distributor ? It doesn't.) Problems began about a year ago intermittently on cold start it ran rough and wouldn't idle until it warmed up then it ran fine. Then it would occasionally lose power and sputter, then take off and run fine again. Tried another control computer, fuel filter and air cleaner. No difference. Good spark on all plugs. If you crank it 20 or 30 times it might turn over but never revs up, probably just starting on the spray from the cold start injector.
HELP. ANY IDEAS????
