02 Signal Relay RemovalFlaps 10-07-2009, 10:40 AM Is there a step-by-step on how to replace the relay. I've tried taking off the cover around the gauge cluster but i am not having any luck. There are these little tabs that hold it in place and i cannot get anything inside to push them out of the way so that i can pull out the unit. It's driving me crazy :runaround: Thanks Iflylow 10-12-2009, 11:59 AM O2 signal relay? What year of Alero? Mine is an '02 as well Are you referring to the hazard switch assembly which is also the turn signal relay? The hazard relay, if that's what he means, can be removed by pulling the drivers dash vent. Rabidd 12-16-2009, 03:20 PM aye, the hazard switch assembly. I am going out to do mine as soon as I hit the enter button here. I will let you know how fun it was when I finish. I will attempt to go through the vent as Iflylow suggested... Rabidd 12-16-2009, 04:19 PM aight, here is the shizzle, you go through the center vent as Iflylow said. To take this vent cover off there are tabs on the top and on the bottom. Take a small flat screwdriver or a putty knife and slide it under the vent. There are two tabs on the bottom about an inch from each side and you have to get under them and pry upward gently. Once those two metal tabs are pulled up and free of the dash the vent will slide out easily. Then reach in and push on the bottom of the hazard light switch and pull back. Actually it is designed to be squeezed on the top and bottom but you cant fit anything on the topside, anyway just pushing on the bottom of the assembly worked for me. Push on the button to slide it out then unplug it and plug the new one in. Getting it back in is a bit of fun with the limited space but do-able. The part was $25.02 from the local GM dealer, and no they wouldn't warranty it and said there was no recall. skeeter123 12-16-2009, 04:22 PM I replaced my hazard/turn signal relay a while ago; I did it by taking off the cover around the gauge cluster and just pushing in with my thumb (pretty hard) on the hazard button itself. The tabs seemed to be designed to allow this, it didn't break them or anything. And to install the new one I just did reverse, pushing it into place from behind. Once it is pushed in, it will flop around behind the dash; I remember having to reach in with my fingers, flipping the switch around to be able to pull off the connector from the back of the switch. Hope this helps... Iflylow 12-19-2009, 10:35 PM The recall was only for the 00 and 01 Aleros, NHTSA Campaign ID 03V32700003V327000. You still could have had the solder cracking problem, just GM didn't have to pay for it. skeeter123 12-21-2009, 08:39 AM Yeah, I went to what used to be the Oldsmobile dealer in my area, bought a replacement hazard/signal switch, put it on in the parking lot, and it failed just like the original. Walked back into the parts dept, they grabbed another off the shelf, that one worked. The parts guys didn't blink an eye at that. There was a problem with the solder joints on the circuit card inside the switch; I don't think they cleared out the bad inventory. Oh, and mine is an '02 Alero 3.4.
