NO Overdrive, any suggestions?

I am trying to resurrect my 94 GCL. It will not shift into overdrive at highway speeds. No overdrive at all.

It will shift through 1,2,3, automatically.

As well, when driving at highway speed, it drops back down into 2nd, & then back up into 3rd.

Just looking for suggestions, thanks much.

Re: NO Overdrive, any suggestions?

My fault codes on the dash are 12 & 55.

I'll check the fluid again.

Re: NO Overdrive, any suggestions?

I did add some fluid, but that did not solve the problem. Shifts a little easier, but still no overdrive.

Re: NO Overdrive, any suggestions?

take a look to the oss (output shaft speed sensor) its not very expensive(20-30$aftermarket) ,that part its outside the tranny. but its could be the overdrive solenoid(in the tranny) and or other parts in the tranny theres many possibility

Re: NO Overdrive, any suggestions?

After quite a few baseball games, I made my way under the jeep.

I know my TC is an NP249J, but the closest I could come to getting any type of information on the transmission, was a paper tag with the following numbers.

0461176702101297 A7B3.

I have been trying to decipher this online, but no luck. If memory serves me, the guy who swapped the motor did the transmission as well, but I can't remember for sure.

I do appreciate your help honestly, it is just making enough personal time for this is the hardest.

It is fun though.
