96 suburban wont re start after shut off

hi i have a 96 suburban 5.7 4x4 i am having a hair pulling problem with. it all started last wednesday. me and the family tryed to go out swiming. we got all loaded and started the burben. i forgot somthing in the house shut it off went in, came out and tryed to start, no start , i checked out and found no fuel pres. pump was not running at key roll. no prob i think. i drop tank install new pump and filt. it runs great, fixed. yesterday we go to station shut it off no restart. no fuel pres no pump. i tow it home i try it a few hours latter it starts runs great. shut off try to re stat no pump or pres. no start. i let it sit a few hours and it will restart. and it seams like as long as i do not shut off it will stay running. i also replaced fuel pump reley. i belive i really did not need a pump. the day i did the pump it restarted before i replaced but i did not want to trust it. this is our only trans , so i really need this fixed. any help would be great . thanks. mark.
